Alpha Phi International Fraternity is a membership organization dedicated to promoting sisterhood, cultivating leadership, encouraging intellectual curiosity and advocating service. Alpha Phi develops character for a lifetime.
Alpha Phi was founded at Syracuse University by ten of the first nineteen women admitted to the newly-opened university. These ten women with "brave hearts were filled with a noble purpose and eyes that saw clearly into the future." These were the Original Ten, the Founders of Alpha Phi. Pursuing their studies in a male-dominated environment, these women had a pressing need for friends who could sympathize with each other's problems and support each other's aspirations. On September 18, 1872, these ten women initiated themselves into Alpha Phi.
♥ Alpha Phi's are members of a lifelong sisterhood.
♥ Our keystone is friendship–warm, simple and sincere.
♥ Alpha Phi Values: Sisterhood, Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character Development.
♥ Our public motto is "Union Hand in Hand."
♥ The greek letter "Phi" is actually pronounced "Fee" when used in "Alpha Phi." This is because the Phi follows the vowel Alpha.
♥ There are more than 160 collegiate chapters and 175 alumnae chapters.
♥ We are called "Alpha Phi Fraternity" because we were founded before the word "sorority" was used.
♥ Alpha Phi was the first women's fraternity to occupy a chapter house and we built the first fraternity house in America in 1886.
♥ Alpha Phi called the very first Inter-Sorority meeting in 1902. This lead to the founding of the National Panhellenic Council (NPC).
♥ Alpha Phi was the first women's fraternity to use Greek letters as it's emblem.
♥ Has one of the oldest Greek foundations for women also known as the Alpha Phi Foundation.
